Doing Research During an Economic Slowdown

The current economic slow down has forced companies to cut down on research spend. One of the key reasons being the cost associated in conducting such studies. Industries across the globe used to thrive on primary methodologies and spend huge amounts on primary research initiatives, but the recent economic slowdown has forced them to cut down on their spend.

However many fail to acknowledge the fact that a major portion of these research needs could be met affordably by deploying desk research prior to the primary phase, this aids in streamlining primary research initiatives and enables significant reduction on overall research investments. Another perspective of desk research is that it is affordable to small and medium businesses working on shoe string budgets.

Career Opportunities Decreasing

Take a look around and you will see that career opportunities are decreasing. We are in the middle of a huge recession and there is no telling when we will see the light at the end of the tunnel. I bet everyone who reads this article has been affected by job loss in some way or fashion. Maybe you lost your job or your spouse did, maybe you know someone who has and is really struggling to make ends meet right now. Whatever it is just know that things wont get better quickly and that career opportunities are decreasing.

I am a college student at the University of Pittsburgh studying business. One of my classes is Macro Economics, in this class every student was required to present a current event. So as I sat that there and listened to these students present their current events I noticed that there was a common theme in every current event that was chosen. That one common thing was job loss.

Portland Real Estate News

Like much of the country, the market for real estate in Portland has suffered over the past two years as a result of the greater fluctuations in the national housing market brought on by the global recession. There has been a rise in foreclosures and home prices have fallen.

Recently, trends show Portland is still treading water, but significantly below pre-crash levels. According to an article in the Portland Business Journal at the end of October, the most recent statistics show Portland real estate still down. Prices improved in August compared with July, but only by 0.3%. Additionally, those price levels, though higher than July, were 12.5% lower than prices from 2008, quoting the Standard & Poor’s Case-Shiller index.
