Tescopoly: How the supermarket chain is slowly taking over my area

Posted by Admin in Financial Category

There is a derelict B&Q store in my hometown of Southend-on-Sea that has been the centre of much controversy- Tesco wants to build yet another superstore in this part of South East Essex using the site.

B&Q moved to a slightly out-of-town retail park a few years back and this has left a gaping retail opportunity for a business to set-up in the heart of Southend’s busy town centre.

However, Tesco already has 11 stores in the space of a few miles in the town. Does it really need a 12th store? In my eyes, it certainly doesn’t.

And picking up a copy of my local newspaper The Evening Echo last night, it appears that more than 200 shopkeepers are not happy with the prospect of the supermarket giant setting up close to the High Street either.
